Charleston International Airport’s runways have reopened after being closed since Wednesday because of ice and snow.

One runway opened at noon Saturday; the other opened at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The storm dumped 5.3 inches of snow and ice at the airport, and low temperatures in the subsequent days kept the runways frozen.

Machinery helped clear the compacted ice and snow, and Joint Base Charleston deemed the runways safe.

Airport officials asked passengers to remain patient as airlines resumed normal operations and rebooked passengers.

The airport did not have the number of passengers stranded during the storm. The airport handles 59 arrivals and 59 departures a day, according to the online flight schedule for January.
