The Columbia Museum of Art is reopening its renovated galleries Friday, with previews of two new exhibits. The galleries house the museum’s collection along with featured exhibitions.

According to the museum’s website, each gallery will feature a theme including Art and Identity and Vice and Virtue. The collection includes works by Botticelli, Monet, Warhol, Frank Lloyd Wright and Georgia O’Keeffe. Many of the works have been restored for the opening. Three new galleries are devoted to modern and contemporary art.

The museum is holding an event Aug. 17 to preview two new exhibits, Something’s Happening: The Big Art of Katie Pell and Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Exposed. At the same time the museum will re-open its collection in the renovated upstairs galleries.

Pell will talk about her exhibit and Will South, CMA’s chief curator, will present thoughts on the collection’s placement in the galleries.

The event is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the museum located at 1515 Main St. Doors will open at 5:30 and tickets are $15 or free with membership. Tours will also be given this weekend.
