Escape Lounge opens at GSP

Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport has a new place for travelers to grab a little peace and quiet on a hectic day.

The Escape Lounge had a soft opening recently and will celebrate the new space with an open house on Oct. 25.

GSP is the fifth U.S. airport to have a common use lounge designed by MAG USA. The company invested more than $1 million in the 2,500-square-foot lounge.

“We’re excited to bring this kind of atmosphere to GSP,” said lounge manager Justin Kelly. “It’s been a good project working with everyone to bring it together and the reception has been very positive.”

Escape Lounge includes hot and cold food and beverage choices, seating, high-speed wi-fi and up-to-the-second flight information. Each Escape Lounge’s food offerings were developed by a local chef using locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible, according to a news release.

A wall behind the host desk was created from oaks taken down on the airport property, Kelly said.

“This Escape Lounge will allow us to offer all passengers a premium sanctuary after the security checkpoint and before boarding their flight,” said Dave Edwards, GSP president and CEO, in the release. “It’s important for us to create an enjoyable airport experience from ticket purchase to destination. This lounge will contribute to that experience.”

A cover charge is required to gain access to the lounge. American Express Platinum and Centurion card holders are admitted at no charge and can bring two guests, Kelly said.

The other airports with an Escape Lounge are Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Oakland International Airport, Bradley International Airport and Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Greenville-based Mavin Construction was the contractor for the project.
