Nico is set to host a three-course Savoyard Dinner inspired by traditional Savoyard cuisine of the French Alps on Jan. 24. The first course includes a salmon and raclette cheese, spinach, potato and lemon zest dish paired with a glass of Bernard Fouquet Sparkling Vouvray Brut NV. The second course is a Savoy pasta dish with sausage and raclette cheese wrapped in bacon served with Crozet pasta and braised leek as well as orange zest. The second course is paired with a glass of Chignon Charles Gonnet. Dessert includes pear rissoles, which is a dish with sweet roasted pear in puff pastry with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce paired with a glass of Sablettes Sauternes.

Tickets are $65 per person, which includes wine pairings. Guests can reserve a spot by calling the restaurant at 843-352-7969. The dinner will be capped at 30 attendees.


The Taste of Folly street festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Center Street. Local restaurants will serve their dishes and show live cooking demonstrations. The event includes a chili cook off, hot dog eating contest, server olympics and oyster shucking competition. There will also be a kids’ area, which includes inflatables and culinary-inspired arts and crafts with the Folly Beach Library.

Tickets are $5. Folly residents and kids ages 12 and under can attend for free.

The Cannon Distillery Cocktail Competition is also set to begin 7 p.m. Friday at the Tides Hotel. Tickets for the cocktail competition are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets include all samplings of cocktails.


 Maui Tacos is now open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at 200 Meeting St., Suite 2. The restaurant is set to host a grand opening from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The event will include live Hawaiian music, hula dancers, giveaways, tastings and specials such as $3 tacos, frozen margaritas and draft beers.
