On the Menu provides the latest news from the Charleston area’s culinary community, including new restaurants, new menu items and upcoming events, as well as details about local chefs. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina has opened a location at 1109 Park West Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. The restaurant has parking, an outdoor patio with live music and trivia.

The Park West location is the third Mex 1 has opened. For the summer, Mex 1 is serving frosés that add a split of prosecco or sparking rosé to a frozen blend of California rosé, rosé vodka and strawberries. 

The seventh annual Charleston Beer Week is slated for Sept. 7-14 at venues throughout the greater Charleston area.

The Lowcountry currently has 30 breweries and brewpubs, with two more set to open in the coming year.

Beer Week will focus on local breweries and brewpubs, but events will also include regional and national brands. Several outdoor events will also take place this year, including a golf tournament benefiting Lowcountry Local First, a guided kayak tour and Lowcountry boil, a yard pong tournament and a disc golf tournament in Park Circle.

Some breweries will release collaboration beers, often brewed just for Charleston Beer Week; other events will include food pairings, beer games, tastings and style-specific offerings.
