Boating Magazine has named Lake Murray one of the nation’s Top 10 Places to Live and Boat. The Midlands lake also made the publication’s list in 2011.
The list cites Lake Murray’s dozens of marinas and abundant boat landings and ramps, along with the popularity of water sports enjoyed there. It notes a variety of entertainment options available in nearby Columbia, with its low cost of living, while adding: “Still, upscale home communities ring the lake, so pick your lifestyle.”
“The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism office is excited to report this Top 10 status again,” Miriam Atria, president and CEO of the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism office, said in a news release. “This is great publicity for the Lake Murray Country region. Our tourism office has been marketing Lake Murray as a vacation destination for years and this recognition validates our marketing message. … Lake Murray Country is a vacation destination and a fantastic recreational asset providing both residents and visitors the perfect spot to live and boat.”
Other boating spots in the magazine’s top 10 include Destin, Fla., Long Island, N.Y., Lake of the Ozarks and Puget Sound. The rankings are based on editors’ experiences and boater opinions and factor in livability, public access and convenience, according to Boatingmag.com.
