Kiawah Island Golf Resort has opened its new conference center, one of several projects in the resort’s expansion launched in 2018.

The West Beach Conference Center contains 23,000 square feet of pre-event and meeting space, including a 10,000-square-foot ballroom and 11 breakout rooms. The center can accommodate up to 1,000 for a reception or theater configuration, or up to 600 for a classroom or banquet setup.

Heidi Nowak, director of sales and marketing at the resort, said many of the features included in the new conference center came from input that Kiawah Island Golf Resort sought from meeting planners.

“West Beach Conference Center reflects the invaluable insight those planners provided regarding the elements today’s groups demand,” Nowak said in a news release.

The conference center is part of a two-year expansion plan that Kiawah Island Golf Resort unveiled ahead of the 2021 PGA Championship, coming to Kiawah Island in May 2021.

Roger Warren, president of the resort, said in 2018 that the conference center will help Kiawah Island Golf Resort to attract larger groups that had previously been unable to stay at the resort because it didn’t have enough space.

Other projects in the expansion include a 150-seat chapel, an expanded Roy Barth Tennis Center, a renovated Cougar Point Clubhouse and four four-bedroom cottages overlooking The Ocean Course.

Bryan Hunter, spokesman for the resort, said the clubhouse, the chapel, the tennis court expansion and a new Villa Registration center have been completed so far.
