Travel website Leisure Group Travel named Capital City/Lake Murray Country one of seven areas in the country where virtual tourism is thriving during the COVID-19 crisis.

The website notes the “Z-learning” online program being offered at Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens, which features live interactions and behind-the-scenes peeks.

“Z-Learning offers a new way of exploring and learning while creating connections and inspiring action that will have an everlasting impact on conservation,” the site says.

Also featured are Milwaukee, offering virtual zoo and museum tours; Northwest Florida, featuring a slideshow of a turtle trail and online historical tours; and Washington, D.C., where visitors can take digital strolls along the National Mall or visit the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.

Myrtle Beach, with live webcams of sand and surf, also made the list.

The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Office said Leisure Travel Group contacted destinations last week in search of digital adventure offerings.

“Julie Colson with the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism office responded to Leisure Group Travel letting their editors know how our region is still attracting visitors virtually,” Miriam Atria, organization president and CEO, said in a news release. “We were excited to hear the news today (Wednesday) that our region was selected.”
