(Image/Topgolf Entertainment Group)If there hasn’t been enough golf throughout the state with the PGA Championship on Kiawah Island, RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island and this week’s Palmetto Championship at Congaree, the grass ahead is even greener for amateur players, at least.

Topgolf Entertainment Group, a global sports and entertainment company, has officially begun development on its North Charleston venue near the intersection of Tanger Outlet Drive and International Boulevard.

“Charleston is an ideal community for Topgolf — it has a vibrant culture with individuals seeking new and exciting experiences,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway in a statement. “We are eager to start creating memorable moments in North Charleston and look forward to future growth in the region.”

The semi-indoor driving range offers a more high-tech play than an outdoor golf course. Golfers can track a ball to any of the targets from their personal hitting bay, and do it with music food and drinks.

Construction on the two-level, 72-bay venue is expected to kick off early next year with an opening date of late 2022.

This will be South Carolina’s third Topgolf, with locations in Greenville and Myrtle Beach.

The North Charleston venue will be built in proximity to entertainment spaces like the Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center.

Upon completion, Topgolf in Charleston anticipates a need to hire more than 300 associates.
