Columbia craft beer lovers will have some new brews from Georgia to sample later this month.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co., a certified craft brewery based in Athens, plans to expand its distribution to Columbia by mid-September, company officials announced this week.

This will be Creature Comforts’ third expansion into South Carolina after entering the Charleston and Hilton Head markets in 2021.

Four of the brewery’s most popular year-round beers will be available on draft at select locations around the city: Athena, a tart German-style wheat beer; a pale ale called Automatic; Bibo, a crisp and dry Pilsner; and Tropicalia, a balanced, juicy IPA.

“With our college-town roots and last year’s expansion to the coast of South Carolina, Columbia was a natural next stop for us,” said Chris Herron, CEO of Creature Comforts and a former member of the varsity men’s soccer team at the University of South Carolina. “We’re excited to bring Creature Comforts to the heart of the state and be part of the energy and growth of Columbia’s restaurant and creative communities.”

Beverage South will distribute Creature Comforts beers in Columbia.

Founded in 2014, Creature Comforts Brewing Co. produces a core lineup of year-round beers and a variety of seasonal and limited releases throughout the year. The company’s central location is the Snow Tire Taproom, a brewery and taproom located inside a former tire shop in downtown Athens.

Creature Comforts recently opened a second Athens production facility and is starting construction on a new brewery and taproom in Los Angeles.

The brewery also has plans to expand distribution to Greenville later in the fall.
