The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s nonprofit partner, the Charleston County Parks Foundation, will host the first ever Folly Pier Fest on the reconstructed Edwin S. Taylor Folly Beach Fishing Pier on Saturday, March 11.

From 5 to 8 p.m., families are invited to enjoy festivities on the newly reopened pier, all while raising funds to support the Charleston County Parks Foundation, a news release from the foundation stated.

All ages are invited to stroll the pier and enjoy live music from The Dave Landeo Band and solo acoustic artist Justin Hodge. Breakdancer Kyle “K-Otic” Johnson will also perform at the pier, according to the release. Entertainment company “Good Clean Fun” will also be on site featuring a mermaid and juggling. Face painting and temporary tattoos will also be provided.

Various performances and a carnival-type atmosphere will hearken back to the early days of Folly Beach and the first pier in that location, which opened in the 1930s.

Food trucks will be on site and other festival foods will be available for purchase, including popcorn and cotton candy. Beverages, including alcohol, will also be available. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs.

Admission for adults to the Folly Pier Fest is $20 in advance, or $25 on site (if available). Children 12 and under are free. Advance ticket purchase is recommended as this event may sell out. Proceeds will benefit the Charleston County Parks Foundation. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.

Following a two-year reconstruction process, the new Folly Beach Pier opened to the public on Dec. 26, according to the release. The pier will be closed for a two-week period from Jan. 23 through Feb. 3 in order to conduct parking lot renovations. The new 1,049-foot-long pier features concrete pilings and substructure, with a wooden walkway and railings.

Amenities at the Folly Beach Pier include restrooms, the Pier 101 Restaurant and Bar, beach access, showers, and the Gangplank Gift & Tackle Shop (which, in addition to selling gifts, sundry items, refreshments and tackle/bait, offers rod rentals). The Folly Beach Pier is the ideal location for saltwater fishing, walking, birding and views of the Atlantic Ocean and the “Edge of America.” Additional special events are also planned at the pier in 2023, including the Moonlight Mixers series.

The Charleston County Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization formed in 1990 by CCPRC, according to the release. Its mission is to help ALL residents experience Charleston County Parks and programs. Presently, the foundation is working on four projects: The Genesis Swim Safety Fund, the Park and Recreation Opportunity Fund, the Nature Stewardship Fund, and the Cultural History Fund.
