A Louisiana-based restaurant that combines Vietnamese and New Orleans cuisine will be opening a location on Whaley Street in Columbia later this spring.

Bahn Mi Boys will open at 625 Whaley St., Suite C in the Granby Park neighborhood near the University of South Carolina campus, according to a recent announcement from the chain on social media.

Started in 2015 in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie, Bahn Mi Boys is the result of founder Peter Nguyen’s vision. Nguyen said in material on the company website that both food cultures share French influences.

Bahn Mi Boys offers a large selection of both traditional New Orleans po’boy sandwiches and Vietnamese bahn mi, which features French-style baguettes filled with meats, vegetables and other condiments.

The menu includes shrimp, roast beef and oyster po’boys. Bahn mi selections include pork roll, shrimp, steak, brisket, chicken, pork belly and vegetarian offerings filled with fried tofu and portobello mushrooms.

Bahn Mi Boys will also offer chicken wings, loaded fries, salads and other menu items.

This will be the eatery’s fourth location. There are also two in Lousiana and one in Texas.

Company officials say the Columbia location should open sometime between late April and the middle of May.
