S.C. unemployment rate remains at 3.3%

South Carolina’s unemployment rate remained at 3.3% from October to November, while the number of people working in the state increased by 4,202 to a record level of 2,235,289.

The state’s labor force increased by 4,676 to 2,311,983, according to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.

The national unemployment rate remained at 3.7% for the third consecutive month.

Since November 2017, state employment gains have totaled approximately 14,100 workers, while the labor forced has declined by nearly 7,150. The level of unemployed workers has dropped by approximately 21,250.

The trade, transportation and utilities industries saw a state-best increase of 8,700, while leisure and hospitality jobs fell by 4,200.

In Richland County, unemployment dropped from 3.3% in October 2018 to 3.1% in November 2018, compared to 4.1% in November 2017. In Lexington County, unemployment fell from 2.8% in October 2018 to 2.6% in November 2018, compared to 3.5% in November 2017.
