S.C. unemployment rate remains at 3.2% in March

South Carolina’s unemployment rate remained at 3.2% in March, while the number of people working climbed by 6,826 to a record 2,274,185.

The state’s labor force, the number of people who could work, increased by more than 8,600 to 2,350,494 people, according to the latest numbers from the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.

The national unemployment rate also remained unchanged at 3.8%.

In S.C., business and professional services saw a downturn of 3,200, while education and health services reported an increase of 800 workers.

Since March 2018, S.C. employment has increased by 41,030 people, the department said.

In Richland County, the unemployment rate ticked up to 3.3% in March from 3.1% in February, remaining slightly lower than March 2018’s 3.4%. Lexington County also saw a slight increase, to 2.8% in March from 2.7% in February. Employment in that county stood at 2.9% in March 2018.

In Marlboro County, unemployment dipped from 8.7% in February to 4.9% in March.
