The Upstate SC LGBT+ Chamber and nonprofit Pride Link will host an inaugural LGBTQ Career Extravaganza today from 2-6 p.m. at 30 Pointe Circle in Greenville.

The free event is sponsored by Think Up Consulting and will host representatives from ScanSource, Milliken, Prisma Health and TD Bank, among other Upstate companies.

According to recent statistics published by Human Rights Campaign, LGBT people were more than 75% more likely to be unemployed due to COVID-19 than the general population. Before the pandemic, LGBT South Carolinians were more than twice as likely to be unemployed than non-LGBT peers, according to a news release.

“The connections made will support a more equitable South Carolina where everyone can thrive,” Tyler Prescott, executive director of Upstate SC LGBT Chamber, said in the release.

To prepare candidates, United Ministries is sponsoring a mock interview workshop and resume/cover letter workshop on site, as well as access to a full wardrobe donation center from The GEAR Closet and free headshots from Celina Odeh. We Got the Beets food truck and Junto Coffee will also be present with refreshments and lunch.

Other participating businesses include Amaryllis Counseling, New York Life, Market Theatre, Fork and Plough, Proterra, Windstream, Safe Harbor, AID Upstate, Hester General Store and Edward Jones.
