SCBio has scheduled a life sciences boot camp next month to inform and update businesses on opportunities, trends and issues facing South Carolina’s fastest-growing industry segment.

SCBio is an investor-driven public-private economic development organization focused on building, advancing and growing the life sciences industry in the state.

The half-day boot camp — S.C. Life Sciences Boot Camp: Essentials of a Growing Industry — is scheduled for March 14 at the University of South Carolina’s Arnold School of Public Health in Columbia. The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will include a light breakfast followed by presentations from over half a dozen life sciences industry leaders. Presenters and topics include:

  • Burnie Maybank, author of the S.C. Life Sciences Act and partner at Nexsen Pruet, will speak on economic development incentives in the life sciences industry;
  • Stephanie Yarbrough, partner, Womble Bond Dickinson, who will discuss mergers and acquisitions in the life sciences space;
  • Kathryn Cole Becker, principal, Translational Science Solutions, will talk about the Food and Drug Administration and medical devices;
  • Jeff Stover, partner at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, will speak on intellectual property essentials for life sciences, and
  • John Osborne, partner, Good Growth Capital, will give an introduction to life science innovation and entrepreneurship.

Attendance is free to SCBio members and employees of SCBio member companies, $75 for nonmembers. Advanced registration is required and can be done online, and space is limited.
