Enviva finalizes acquisition of Greenwood plant

Enviva has completed its acquisition of a wood pellet production plant in Greenwood. It is the company’s seventh manufacturing facility and the first plant to operate in South Carolina.

The Greenwood plant employs nearly 80 full-time workers. Enviva said it will make additional investments to improve efficiency and add equipment to increase production to 600,000 metric tons by next year.

The company is the world’s largest producer of wood pellets, a renewable and sustainable energy source used to generate electricity and heat with facilities in Virginia, North Carolina, Mississippi and Florida.
