Chemical company locating operations in Richland County

Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. USA is investing $19.5 million in new production operations in Richland County expected to create 25 jobs.

Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. USA, a specialty chemical manufacturer of raw materials and a subsidiary of Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. Ltd., is based in South Korea. It produces and supplies raw materials for ultraviolet and electron beam markets that are used in food packaging inks, coatings for wood, plastic and metal, and adhesives for DVDs and mobile phones.

The 65,000-square-foot production facility, expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2020, will be located at 1700 Longwood Road in Columbia. Hiring is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2020.

“We welcome Miwon Specialty Chemical to Richland County,” Richland County Council chair Paul Livingston said in a news release. “This new production operation and the 25 jobs it will bring builds on our success in growing our manufacturing sector and strengthening our economy.”
