Industrial design and machining company DC Machine is expanding its existing Dorchester County operations with a $9.5 million investment that is expected to create 63 new jobs.

The company, headquartered in Summerville, serves the automotive, aerospace, medical and military industries with firearms components manufacturing and precision metal parts. The company established its first 250-square-foot facility in 2004.

This is DC Machine’s second expansion in five years; in 2015, the company added 17,000 square feet to its facility at 202 Thorpe Road in Summerville and hired 17 new employees.

The current expansion entails the purchase of a second building at 2735 W. Fifth North St. in Summerville, increasing DC Machine’s operational space by more than 61,000 square feet, according to a news release.

“The people in the Summerville area are what allow us to operate at such a high level,” plant manager Matthew Crim said in the release. “The employees are our most valuable asset, and I am happy to be able to expand in my hometown.”

Logan Richardson, marketing manager for partner company Palmetto State Armory, said in an email that DC Machine’s new facility will be in addition to the company’s current location and that the expansion will allow the company to grow production of existing product lines.

“The new building offers DC room to expand for several years to come,” Richardson said. “We needed more space, and this new building provides that.”

He added that the 63 new jobs will mainly be computer numerical control machining positions. The new facility is projected to be operational later this year.
