Berkeley County will host an information session at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at Cainhoy Elementary School for residents interested in training for manufacturing positions.

Attendees will be able to sign up for the upcoming ManuFirstSC course that begins March 14. The three-week course, formerly known as the Lean Manufacturing course, will provide skills to qualify candidates for manufacturing positions at companies around Berkeley County and throughout South Carolina.

The course is free for residents of Berkeley County who are at least 18 years old and able to legally work in the United States; have a high school or GED diploma; have a WIN/WorkKeys assessment score; and can pass a background check and drug screening.

Berkeley County partnered with Trident Technical College, the S.C. Department of Commerce, Volvo Cars and readySC to pilot the ManuFirstSC program in June 2017. Since then, the Commerce Department has begun to roll out ManuFirstSC across the state’s technical college system. More than 900 people have graduated from the program in the Lowcountry, including 400 in Berkeley County.
