Radiothon raises funds for children’s hospital

The 12th annual Prisma Health Children’s Hospital Upstate Radiothon, presented by Entercom Radio, raised $200,945 for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Greenville, helping sustain the programs and services that support children and families during a hospital stay, according to a new release.

Most of the fundraising occurred during a live two-day radio broadcast that concluded on Aug. 9 on Entercom Upstate’s stations. Additional funds were raised through online and text-to-give donations that accrued in the days preceding the live broadcast. The success of this year’s event brings the total amount raised by Radiothon to more $3.2 million since 2007, the release said.

“Radiothon is such a labor of love for the entire Entercom family. We have a passion for our loyal listeners and community and none are more special than the families at Children’s Hospital,” Devon van der Merwe, director of sales at Entercom, said in the release. “Being able to give back is what makes our radio brands, our sponsors and personalities so powerful.”

Radiothon helps fund services not covered under a normal operating budget and includes items needed for everyday care and play such as iPads and toys, specialized medical equipment and special needs car seats. The funds also support larger programs including a facility dog program and summer camps that Prisma Health Children’s Hospital sponsors free of charge to patients, the release said.
