The 20th anniversary of the Race for The Ark, held Aug. 24, raising a record $38,000 with 680 participants.

Race proceeds will benefit The Ark in its work to provide comprehensive support services to families living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. The event funds programs in five counties, including memory screenings, resource fairs, educational workshops, support groups and respite centers.

The race included a 5K run and walk and 1-mile fun run, both beginning and ending at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Summerville.

Burtons Grill in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre is partnering with Charleston Animal Society to host Paws on The Patio monthly through November.

Cost is $25 per person, with $10 donated to the animal society. The event is limited to 30 people, and reservations are required.

Guests can bring their dogs to happy hour from 6 to 8 p.m. the second Thursday of each month through November, beginning this week. Attendees will receive two drink tickets and an appetizer buffet. Dogs will receive a party favor from Hairy Winston Pet Boutique.

Tickets are now on sale for Party for the Parks, the Charleston Parks Conservancy’s main fundraiser. This year’s theme is Call of the Wild, “where punk rock meets animal instincts.”

Early bird general admission tickets are $95. Once those sell out, or on Oct. 1, regular general admission tickets will be $125 each. VIP tickets are $125 for early birds and $250 regularly. VIPs get access to a private lounge with a bar, signature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and food, and VIP entertainment.

All tickets include an open bar and food from several local restaurants and caterers. Plus, there will be live music, “wild” entertainment and a silent auction.

Party for the Parks is from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 2 at Colonial Lake.
