The S.C. Secretary of State is accepting nominations of charitable organizations for the office’s annual Angel awards.

Every year, Secretary of State Mark Hammond honors charitable organizations in S.C. who contribute the most amount of their donations to the cause they claim to assist. To qualify as an Angel, organizations must use at least 80% of their donations for charitable services, have been operating for at least three years, make good use of volunteer help and do not rely heavily on government grants or grants from other organizations, according to a news release from Hammond’s office.

The Secretary of State’s office releases its list of the highest-ranking Angel charities serving the state every year. Click here for more information about the office’s tracking of charitable organizations.

Letters of nomination can be sent to the Secretary of State’s Office, Division of Public Charities, 1205 Pendleton St., Suite 525, Columbia, S.C., 29201.  Nominations can also be sent via email to [email protected].

Nominations should include the name of the charitable organization, its location, contact information and reasons it should be honored as an Angel. Nominations will be accepted through Oct. 7.
