Lowcountry Food Bank has received a grant from the Jean Griswold Foundation, an affiliate of Griswold Home Care, to support the food bank’s work fighting hunger throughout the state’s 10 coastal counties.

The grant was awarded as part of the foundation’s mission to support nonprofits dedicated to helping seniors and residents in need throughout their communities.

Dominion Energy and the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation have given a $15,000 grant to the future Charleston Beautiful Gate Center, which is four years into its foundational development.

Once completed, the center will be the only applied behavior analysis development and therapeutic learning center in the state for children and youths with developmental disabilities and autism.

Reading Partners is looking for teams of up to eight people to serve one-time tutoring shifts with students who are struggling to read in 17 elementary schools in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

Teams will serve Fridays during March and April to give extra sessions to the students. The tutoring session is an hour long and preceded by a brief training provided by on-site instructors.

As part of its Art in the Parks program, the Charleston Parks Conservancy is hosting an interactive flower art exhibit with workshops and demonstrations.

Swoon to the Rose: A Flower Art Collaboration will feature the work of five artists, including international artist Hitomi Gilliam. The exhibit, taking place between March 26 and April 16, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays at the conservancy’s offices, in Suite 25 at 720 Magnolia Road in West Ashley.

The exhibit will include four themes including the history of the rose and how to use flowers as decorations. Workshops and demonstrations will also be offered, teaching how to incorporate local flowers into everyday living.

The conservancy is also hosting a series of events in parks throughout the year, including the Magnolia Music Series, Movie Night in the Park and Sunday Brunch at Hampton Park. All proceeds support the conservancy’s work renovating and beautifying public parks and green spaces around Charleston.
