Lowcountry families can drop off letters to Santa through Dec. 18 at Freshfields Village’s special mailbox. For each letter received, Freshfields Village will donate $5 to the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center.

The mailbox will be located near the Christmas trees on the Village Green. Families that include a return address will receive a holiday surprise from Santa. Parents can also email a return address to [email protected] if preferred.

Warrior Surf Foundation has received two donations from Boeing’s grant recipient program, including $5,000 from the ECF Fund and $5,000 from the Military Fund.

Customers who dine at any of three local Zaxby’s from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 1 can also support Charleston Friends of the Library as a portion of sales will go toward the organization.

Participating locations include 3476 Shelby Ray Court, 9141 University Blvd. and 8419 Dorchester Road.

Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center will participate in Giving Tuesday on Dec. 1. This year, Dee Norton is trying to raise $10,000, the cost of providing vital services to five children. The organization has already secured a $5,000 matching gift from an anonymous donor, so individual donations will be doubled on this giving day until the campaign reaches its goal.

The ARK Alzheimer’s Family Support Services is working to raise awareness and funds for local families living with Alzheimer’s and related dementia with its third annual Ugly Sweater 5K dash and one-mile stroll on Dec. 12 in downtown Summerville.

Runners and walkers should wear their most festive holiday sweater for a chance to win prizes. Funds raised from this event will help support The ARK’s work in five area counties, including their social respite programs, memory screenings, resource fairs, educational workshops and support groups.

The 5K will begin at 8:45 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 206 Central Ave., and the one-mile stroll will begin an hour later. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners.

Registration closes at 5:59 p.m. Dec. 10. Tickets are $35 for the 5K run and $10 for the one-mile stroll, or $30 for a group of four. Drive-thru registration and packet pickup will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at 502 W. 5th North St. in Summerville.

Dr. Michale Barber, provider of age management and wellness in Mount Pleasant, is investing in South Carolina’s future workforce with a $100,000 pledge to the Social Emotional Learning Alliance for South Carolina.

The gift will help the organization promote and advance effective social-emotional learning in schools, families, organizations and communities across South Carolina.
