Henry Haitz, former president and publisher of The State Media Co., has joined insurance brokerage HUB Carolinas as market leader for the company’s Charleston office.

Haitz became publisher of The State in May 2006 and resigned in December 2013 to become president and publisher of Hearst’s Connecticut Media Group. Haitz is currently the owner of Homewatch Caregivers of Lakewood Ranch, a Florida-based provider of non-medical in-home companion and personal care services.

“Henry knows South Carolina, and South Carolina knows him,” Tommy Suggs, president and CEO of HUB Carolinas, said in a news release. “Having connected with the business community regularly as a daily newspaper publisher here in South Carolina, he carries a deep understanding of the needs of our clients, from banks to healthcare providers to individuals, and every sort of business in between.”

Haitz received a master’s degree in business administration and finance from Penn State and has served on several state nonprofit boards, including United Way of the Midlands and Central Carolina Community Foundation.

HUB, headquartered in Chicago, is the world’s sixth-largest insurance, benefits and risk services brokerage, according to the news release.
