EB Development still has plans to build an outlet mall along the 12th Street Extension and Saxe Gotha Drive in Cayce and is continuing to show the property, the company said.

The company contracted the land two years ago. The project, to be called The Outlets at Southern Commons, features 160,000 square feet of retail space with a planned 60 stores and a 70,000-square-foot entertainment complex. The proposed project also includes space for a hotel and future residential space.

Paulette Russell, a leasing agent for EB Development, said the parcel is a prime location, just minutes from Interstate 77.

“It’s important to be far enough away from the high-price stores,” Russell said. “Columbia is one of the few capital cities in the U.S. without an outlet mall.”

Russell said the planned development will feature five outlet parcels. Currently, the firm has no signed leases, but Russell is continuing to show the property to potential retail, hotel and entertainment clients.

“We will know a lot more about the property by the end of the year,” Russell said. “Depending on the leases, there could be an opening as soon as 2020.”

The site is part of SCANA’s 260-acre Otarre Pointe Development. The development is across I-77 from Saxe Gotha Industrial Park, home to Amazon’s 1.25-million-square-foot fulfillment center and Nephron Pharmaceuticals’ manufacturing facility.

EB Development’s online project portfolio features several other outlet malls, including Vero Beach Outlets in Florida, California’s Outlets at Lake Elsinore and the Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay in Texas.
