Charleston residents might recall when The Beach Co. broke ground on The Jasper in 2018. The 78-year-old company, which is known as a leader in residential and commercial real estate brokerage, development and property management, threw a party, touting The Jasper as a structure that would be looked upon as a “jewel in the city’s architectural crown.”

The developers understood the historical importance behind the original building erected in 1950 and named after revolutionary war hero Sergeant Jasper from The Battle of Sullivan's Island. In order to hew to historical standards, the company spent more than three years working with Charleston’s Board of Architectural Review on the waterfront project.

The 2018 celebration attracted 300 guests, all anxious for what the future would hold for the mixed-use building located in the historic district.

In March, The Beach Co. announced the opening of Ashley Artisan Suites at The Jasper.Today, The Jasper has 219 residential units and 80,000 square foot of office space above neighborhood-scale retail spaces. The corporate headquarters of The Beach Co. are located there, along with other Class A Office tenants. The neighborhood retail on the first floor accentuates the streetscape of Broad and Barre streets with gardens, outdoor cafes and restaurants, and shops and services to accommodate visitors from near and far.

If this wasn’t enough to drive business to the area, The Beach Co.’s most recent venture will certainly pique the interest of those who enjoy spending time in Harleston Village. In March, the company announced the opening of Ashley Artisan Suites. Tenants are already lining up to lay claim to some of the 24 spaces, all which offer a lobby with an Ashley River view. Company spokesperson Caroline Rogers said that there are spaces still available for local makers, artisans and health and beauty professionals.

Ashley Artisan Suites currently counts among its tenants G&H Hair, a salon that specializes in upscale men’s grooming and has served the Charleston peninsula for more than 15 years, BeachKrew, Charleston’s newest beach-inspired lifestyle brand, Stacey Goode, a licensed cosmetologist who offers both hairstyling and barbering services and Koniver Aesthetics, which offers injectables, laser skin resurfacing, skin tightening and more. The Jasper address will be the second location for the Medspa, which also has a location on Tobias Gadson Boulevard. “It’s been our pleasure to offer our patients at a centrally located satellite location at The Jasper,” said owner Dr. Keli Koniver.

Dan Doyle, vice president and chief operating officer at the Beach Co., said that feedback has been positive. “Ashley Artisan Suites is an excellent complement to not only The Jasper’s office and other lifestyle retailers and residential offerings, but also to the Broad Street Neighborhood and we are fortunate to have a variety of locally owned boutiques just steps away from neighbors, residents and guests to experience,” he said.
