Meritage Homes has closed on its first land purchase in the coastal Carolinas.

The sixth-largest public homebuilder in the U.S, based on homes closed in 2020, is expanding its East Region operations, with a focus on Myrtle Beach, Charleston and the surrounding areas.

The Scottsdale, Arizona-based company’s first South Carolina community will be developed in Conway, in the master-planned Clear Pond on Clear Pond Boulevard.

Plans include 379 lots with one- and two-story single-family detached homes. Homebuyers can choose from 10 floorplans on sites ranging from approximately 1,500 to 2,900 square feet.

"Clear Pond will offer affordable single-family homes with our high standard for quality construction, energy efficiency and home automation built into each home,” said Veronica Perez, division president for Meritage Homes’ Coastal Carolinas division. “We are thrilled to be launching Clear Pond as the first of many exciting new developments planned for the Myrtle Beach and Charleston markets.”

Meritage Homes, which focuses on entry-level and move-up buyers, will finish out the existing Clear Pond community, situated minutes from Highway 501 and Route 31, as well as Myrtle Beach International Airport.

In the real estate development company’s 36-year history, Meritage Homes has established operations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, building more than 145,000 houses.
