A new brewery will be opening in the former Brookland Fire Station/City Hall building located at 430 Center St. in West Columbia.

West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton said in a news release Savage Craft Ale Works plans to repurpose the original buildings.

“It will be an awesome addition to the entire redevelopment of the State Street and Meeting Street communities,” Horton said.

In 2016, the City of West Columbia adopted an Artisan Manufacturing Ordinance designed to boost business opportunities in the region. A spokesperson for the brewery said in the release the project started in 2017 as a vision, and city officials have embraced the concept.

The brewery plans to have a beer garden, rooftop seating and an event space.

“I think the brewery will be the first step in moving that space into a full entertainment district,” Tem Miles, West Columbia Mayor Pro-Tem, said in the release.

The new brewery is scheduled to open next spring. It said on its Facebook page that construction will begin in October.
