It’s official: Candy corn’s official reign over South Carolina’s retail candy industry has ended, at least for this year, according to a retailer that specializes in candy and data collection.

We’re not planning to fudge the data, and we’re sure this is all scientifically accurate, but we’ve been known to stroll down Market Street in downtown Charleston or Columbia's Vista, and there are candy-makers there doing some amazing things with sugar, chocolate and a little magic.

That being said, CandyStore.com reports that Skittles has been named the No.ƒ??1 candy preferred by residents of the Palmetto State, followed by candy corn and Hot Tamales.

Skittles was the No.ƒ??1 candy for the entire country, too, but South Carolina stood alone in the Southeast for tasting the rainbow. Most other states in the region also had their own top picks, with only Arkansas and Georgia overlapping with 384,466 pounds of Jolly Ranchers sold. We bet there are some giddy dentists in those states, too.
