The Lowcountry’s doughnut output will soon increase by more than a thousand delectable delights per day, when the hot, glazed goodness that is Krispy Kreme opens in North Charleston.

It’s been more than 15 years since the franchise closed its previous North Charleston shop, but the revival is coming.

North Charleston spokesman Ryan Johnson said the new shop is under construction near the intersection of Ladson Road and Palmetto Commerce Parkway, but there is not an estimated completion date, yet.

Patience is key.

Besides, it’s not like the doughnut supply around here is scarce. The only other Krispy Kreme in the Lowcountry is on Savannah Highway in West Ashley, but there’s a Dunkin’ on what seems like every other corner. And Duck Donuts, Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts and BkedShop are perfectly succulent purveyors of sugary, yeasty delicacies.

But none of those shines that red neon light, at 10 p.m. when your day has been ridiculous, and you still haven’t gotten home from work or fed anyone dinner. “Dinner is here,” it glows. And it’s “Hot” and “Now.” It’s a beacon of hope, really.
