Shoppers can expect even more from King Street as Target is joining the neighborhood.

The general merchandise retailer has leased 30,000 square feet of retail space at 211 King St., the former Forever 21 space, Charleston redevelopment experts The Beach Co. said in a news release.

The property is in Majestic Square, a mixed-use retail and office building on the corner of King and Market Streets.

“The Beach Company was determined to find a world-class retailer to serve a wide demographic for this premier space in the city’s busiest commercial district,” Director of Commercial Asset Management with The Beach Co. Tom Stockdale said. “This ideal location in partnership with Target provides Majestic Square an opportunity to further support downtown Charleston’s residents, area employees and visitors.”

Dotan Zuckerman of Zuckerman Co., along with Beach Commercial, represented the landlord, Majestic Square LLC, an affiliate of The Beach Co., and Rich Barta of CORE Properties represented Target Corp.

An opening date and additional details for the small-format store will be announced closer to the store’s opening.

Target is headquartered in Minneapolis and opened its first store in 1962 under the name The Dayton Co. Today, 75% of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of a Target store — there are 1,904 located throughout all 50 states and Washington, D.C., along with 44 distribution centers.

Target employs more than 350,000, and the company earned $78.1 billion in total revenue in 2019.
