A new salon offering a wide variety of hair coloring services has opened on Gervais Street in Columbia.
Haven + Co. officially opened April 10 at 1801 Gervais St., Suite B, with a grand opening city hosted by City of Columbia officials.
The salon is owned by Harley Newsom, a native of Cheraw who moved to Columbia and started her career as a hairstylist in 2017. Newsom said she studied at Paul Mitchell’s location in the Vista and then worked as a stylist at Ellen Owens on Taylor Street before making the decision to open her own salon.
Newsom has a booth at the salon along with two other stylists. All three specialize in coloring.
“I have a focus on blonding and dimensional color, while one stylist specializes in extensions and color and another has a specialty in vivids such as pinks,” Newsom told SC Biz News. “We’re all hard workers and we love the indstury, and we love making people feel good about themselves.”
She hopes the salon’s name will lead clients to feel comfortable once they walk through the door.
“A haven is a place of comfort, and that’s what we want it to be,” she said. “We want to break that stigma, that feeling some people have that you have to be already done up or look a certain way when you come into a salon. We want our clients to feel comfortable being here.”
This isn’t the first venture into business ownership for Newsom. She and her husband Wesley Newsom also own EQ Fitness and Physical Therapy on Devine Street.
Each stylist at Haven + Co. will have different appointment hours and clients can learn more online or call (843) 616-3551.
