Comcast Business has completed a 122-mile fiber optic network across the Charleston region, which will deliver internet speeds of up to 100 gigabits per second.

“Comcast has a strong history of collaboration with and investment in Charleston,” Jason Gumbs, Comcast’s regional senior vice president, said in a news release. “With today’s announcement, we are proud to offer the fastest internet speeds to the most businesses in the region, which nicely positions Charleston as a true smart city.”

In addition to regular business service, the network can also be used by businesses that need a redundant or second network to ensure business continuity during adverse weather.

“Over the years, Charleston’s small and local business community has seen real growth and success, which has benefited not just our economy, but the vibrancy of our neighborhoods and opportunities for our citizens,” Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said in a statement. “As we continue on this positive path, we’re pleased to have partners like Comcast Business that support our technology needs and help our local businesses thrive.”
