Benefitfocus is taking its annual One Place conference online, canceling the in-person event and opting for a virtual event in response to concerns about the new coronavirus.

One Place 2020 had been scheduled for March 17-19. The digital conference will take place on March 18. All registration fees will be refunded, the company said.

Annmarie Fini, executive vice president of customer success organization, said the company made the change to protect the health and well-being of customers, partners and associates as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise across the country.

“We had been continuously monitoring the situation and felt we needed to give our attendees the opportunity to plan accordingly,” Fini said in an email.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said as of noon today, 35 states and Washington, D.C., have reported a total of 647 cases of COVID-19, including seven cases in South Carolina.

Benefitfocus is partnering with a professional digital event company to create a virtual conference experience “that will allow registrants to take in the best of One Place,” Fini said. “We will make sure the content is easily accessible and engaging, and event participants will be able to navigate to the topics and content that matter most to them.”

Fini said Benefitfocus plans to release additional details about the digital One Place conference in the coming days.

Fini said the company is also looking for opportunities for the One Place 2020 speakers to participate in other events throughout the year.
