Beginning today, Richland County transportation officials expect significant traffic delays as utilities are installed at the intersection of North Main Street and Sunset Drive. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to seek alternate routes until road construction ends Nov. 16.

In other county transportation news, Richland County and the city of Columbia will host a follow-up public meeting on Wednesday to review the lane reduction project along Calhoun Street. The meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 1931 Sumter St.

Residents and business owners can learn more about the project, funded by the Richland County Transportation Penny Tax program. The plans propose reducing two travel lanes down to one travel lane with a center turn lane. Parking on the north side of Calhoun Street from Lincoln to Sumter streets and the north side of Hampton from Main to Harden would be removed to allow space for bike lanes.
