Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport handled 10% more passengers in August than it did during the same month in 2018, making it the 23rd consecutive month of passenger activity growth, according to figures released by GSP.

For the first eight months of this year, passenger activity increased by 14.9%, with nearly 1.7 million people traveling through the airport, a news release said.

“Each month, we see more passengers discovering the convenience of using their hometown airport. With new nonstop routes and additional flights to the nation’s top metropolitan areas, travelers now have more options for reaching their business and leisure destinations,” Dave Edwards, GSP president and CEO, said in the release.

Edwards in the past has attributed growing passenger traffic to a combination of more flights and larger planes. Several airlines have added routes or flights and some are using bigger planes to accommodate more passengers, he said.
