Sun Country Airlines will begin nonstop service between The Holy City and The Twin Cities’ Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport beginning April 7. The airline is the only carrier offering nonstop service between the two cities and will operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

The announcement is part of a larger expansion by the airline, Charleston International Airport said in a news release. Sun City is introducing 11 nonstop routes and adding seven new airports to its network.

Elliott Summey, executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority, said that providing travel options for passengers is a top priority of the airport.

“The Twin Cities is a diverse and vibrant metropolitan area that offers great shopping, professional athletic teams in every major sport and dining that will please any taste,” he said in a statement. “We hope Lowcountry residents take advantage of the chance to visit the Midwest, and we look forward to welcoming guests from Minnesota to Charleston.”

Introductory one-way fares start at $89, with exceptions, and all routes are already on sale. Sun City also is expanding its booking calendar to allow travelers to plan through September 2022.

“With more folks eager to resume leisure travel, we’re excited to be able to offer them another option to get away this spring and summer to enjoy the historic and charming city of Charleston, S.C.,” said Sun Country Airlines Chief Revenue Officer Grant Whitney. “We know there is pent-up demand for convenient, affordable travel, and we’re here to help folks enjoy the vacations they’ve been dreaming about.”
