C-SPAN bringing new bus to Columbia

Cable network C-SPAN is celebrating the completion of its new 45-foot customized motor coach with a “50 Capitals” Tour. The tour, which began in September, is scheduled to stop in Columbia on Wednesday and remain until Thursday.

On Thursday, the bus will be parked outside the capitol building, where C-SPAN will host Lt. Gov. Kevin Bryant for a live interview on its morning call-in program, Washington Journal. The tour will also feature interactive demonstrations for teachers, students, community members and elected officials.

“Spectrum is thrilled that C-SPAN is continuing to visit communities across America to share their political and educational resources,” said Adam Falk, senior vice president of state government affairs for Charter Communications. “We're particularly proud to partner with C-SPAN to feature South Carolina and the issues we find most important. We look forward to Columbia residents and local leaders stepping aboard to experience all that C-SPAN has to offer."

C-SPAN Representatives will also gather video responses from visitors to share viewpoints on state issues and what they think Washington leaders should do to address local concerns.

The high-tech, interactive C-SPAN Bus includes:

• Access to an interactive experience available on 11 large-screen tablets featuring C-SPAN programming and political and educational resources
• A smart TV and classroom area for conversations with students and teachers
• A high-definition TV production studio for taped and live programming
• A 360-degree video station featuring C-SPAN's coverage of events and behind-the-scenes tours of U.S. landmarks
• A D.C.-themed selfie station where visitors can share their bus experiences through social media

The bus will be parked in front of Chapin High School on Wednesday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and at USC’s School of Journalism from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. After Bryant’s interview Thursday, the bus will be at the Statehouse from 10 to 11 a.m. and then at Dutch Fork High School from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
