Local Subway restaurants have launched a video contest for Midlands high school students focused on fitness.

Classes, clubs, teams or after-school groups are invited to create videos for the Subway Fresh Fit Video Contest showcasing how participants live a healthy, balanced lifestyle. The grand prize winner will receive a $1,500 grant, while second- and third-place finishers will receive grants of $1,000 and $500.

Finalists will receive a $150 Subway gift card.

The deadline for video submissions is April 22. Winners will be announced in May.

“Having a balanced lifestyle is more than just eating nutritious food and exercising. It includes all aspects of our daily lives,” said local Subway owner Pete Hornsby in a news release. “We hope this contest encourages students to reflect on their own lifestyles and spread the word about the importance of practicing healthy habits.”

Videos can be up to one minute in length and will be submitted via a school’s Twitter page using the hashtag #SubwayFreshFitContest. Videos with the most likes will become area finalists, with a panel of judges then selecting grand-prize winners.

Each contest participant will receive a coupon for a free 6-inch sandwich at participating restaurants.
