Study: Uninsured rate in S.C. ranks high

Listen to this articleA recent study by personal finance blog WalletHub found that 10.99% of S.C. residents have no health insurance, ranking the state among the 10 states with the highest rate of uninsured residents, at 42nd.
Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the country at 17.30%, ranking No. 50, according to the WalletHub study. Massachusetts ranked at No. 1, with 2.80% of its residents lacking insurance.
The study compared uninsured rates for 547 U.S. cities and the 50 states.
The National Center for Health Statistics, part of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, reported that in the first three months of 2018, 8.8%, or 28.3 million, surveyed people were uninsured.
South Carolina saw a 6.54% decline in rates of uninsured residents from 2010-2017, WalletHub found. The national average in that time frame was a drop of 6.72%.
