Palmetto Brewing Co. and High Wire Distilling Co. have partnered to process beer into hand sanitizer for local distribution.

High Wire Distilling donated more than 107 barrels of beer to Palmetto Brewing Co. Under a fully controlled, distillation process, alcohol was evaporated from the beer, cooled and collected. Glycerin and hydrogen peroxide were then mixed in to make a standard hand sanitizer solution.

Charleston Fire Chief Dan Curia helped to coordinate donation drop-offs at several of the firehouses around the city.


Reel Bar has reopened, with changes to the menu and service operations to follow local and state distancing guidelines.

The all-day menu will be served from noon to 8 p.m. Beverage service will be available starting at 11 a.m. Only one customer from each party seated outside will be allowed inside to order food at the bar. Cash will not be accepted.
