The S.C. Department of Revenue will begin accepting 2021 individual income tax returns on Jan. 24. The filing deadline for both state and federal tax returns in April 18.
Hartley Powell, department director, and State Treasurer Curtis Lofits encouraged residents to file taxes electronically and choose direct deposit as a refund option.
“This is the most convenient, secure, and accurate way to file your return and receive your refund without any delays,” Powell said in a news release.
Many South Carolinians are eligible to file online for free. Visit dor.sc.gov/iit-filing for more information on filing options.
The state revenue department will begin processing returns Feb. 7, according to its website. This date allows employers to meet the Jan. 21 W-2 form submission deadline.
Processing of returns and refunds is expected to take six to eight weeks from the date returns are filed. Refunds can be tracked at dor.sc.gov/refund.
