Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

Donate2it, a local crowdfunding company, recently partnered with Charleston Moves to help the bike, pedestrian and public transit advocacy group exceed its $25,000 fundraising goal in celebration of Mobility Month. The crowdfunding company facilitated more than 80 donations to raise $25,470 in one week.


Bert’s Big Adventure, a nonprofit organization that provides an all-expenses-paid, five-day trip to Walt Disney World for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families, is now accepting applications and nominations for children to join the 2020 trip.

In order to qualify, children must be between the ages of 5 and 12, be diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness and have never been to Walt Disney World. The family must prove financial need and live in the radio listening area of The Bert Show, a nationally syndicated morning radio show based in Atlanta.

The complete application and nomination forms are now available. There is also an option to anonymously nominate families. All applications must be submitted by Sept. 10. Families who are selected will be notified no later than Jan. 10, 2020.


East Cooper Community Outreach launched a 30-week campaign to celebrate 30 years of serving the community. The campaign will carry through Giving Tuesday on Dec. 3.

East Cooper Community Outreach was founded as an emergency relief effort after Hurricane Hugo and has since become a permanent resource in the community. Participants in the campaign can learn about the organization as well as get involved as a community partner, volunteer or by donating.  

Individuals who donate $1,000 or more become Life Ring members.


Lowcountry Food Bank is matching donations as part of its campaign Summer Meals Match during the month of May. Now through Friday, individuals who donate to the nonprofit will have their monetary contribution matched.  The campaign will match up to $50,000 through the help of a Lowcountry donor.
