A new residential tower in planned for downtown Columbia at the corner of Lady and Assembly streets.

Construction on the Palms on Lady is slated to begin in 2020, according to a news release from Columbia-based developer the Arnold Companies. The location is the former site of Moe Levy’s and Howards Sports.

The ground floor of the building will have 2,801 square feet of space available for restaurant or retail use.

Apartment floor plans will include studio and one- and two-bedroom and range from 466 to 1,172 square feet. Top floor apartments will have 10-foot ceilings. Apartments will include quartz countertops and energy efficient appliances. All floors will have elevator access.

Arnold Companies is working with MB Kahn Construction and Cline Design Associates on the project.

“This project will offer all the modern conveniences of urban living, but when the residents step inside they will feel as if they escaped for a weekend at a regal resort,” developer Ben Arnold said. “I am excited and proud to bring this type of project to downtown.”

In 2015, Arnold Companies announced a residential and retail development for the site, scheduled for construction in 2016, but the project was revised to the Palms on Lady to focus on more residential units rather than restaurant and retail space.
