The S.C. Department of Commerce and the economic development offices of Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties will host the third annual Tri-County STEMersion Program in June to connect educators with area industries.

Tri-County STEMersion 2020 is a two-week, hands-on program for middle and high school instructors in the tri-county area. According to a news release, the program gives teachers knowledge of careers, local industries and the skill needs of industries.

During the program, educators will visit one or two local companies per day and be introduced to their work environments. Host industries will provide space for creating lesson outlines based on the visit, the release said.

STEMersion also provides educators with a stipend up to $1,000 based on completed assignments and budget allocations.

Applications are being accepted throughout February, and the program will run June 8-11 and June 15-18. Acceptance letters will be sent no later than May 1, the release said.

Businesses can contact Kristen Lanier, manager of Berkeley County Workforce Development, via email for information about investing or hosting educators.
