Fiber optics manufacturer AFL partnered with Habitat for Humanity Spartanburg to build a home for Spartanburg resident Crystal Thompson and her family. The house was sponsored by AFL through its Community Outreach Program and built mostly by AFL volunteers, friends and family.

More than 250 AFL volunteers helped build the house, starting with the wall-raising ceremony in September and continuing through early December. Volunteers worked diligently to complete the home for the Thompsons, including framing and installation of siding and drywall, setting cabinets, and landscaping the yard. This is the second Habitat house AFL associates have built, according to a news release.

“Seeing the results of months of effort by so many volunteers is very rewarding,” Corie Culp, community outreach manager for AFL, said in the release. “Not only have we — AFL volunteers plus additional community members — helped build this house, but we’ve help provide a home for a family in our community.”

Habitat for Humanity has built 127 homes across Spartanburg County.
