Creating a better healthcare future for South Carolina

Creating a better healthcare future for South Carolina

Greenville Health System and Palmetto Health are coming together to create a better health care future for South Carolina. We will create a new, not-for-profit, South Carolina health company designed to improve the health and well-being of South Carolinians in ways we cannot do alone while also driving our state’s economy.

Our patients have told us about their need for quality, accessible health care at an affordable cost. Our coming together will enable us to create the efficiencies and population health programs to address the communities’ and employers’ needs today and for generations to come.  Working together we will bring greater value to our patients, employers, and South Carolina’s health care market.

We have the opportunity to shape and lead the future of health care in our state with quality, South Carolina-driven care. We will work together to address the many critical health issues that affect the people of South Carolina. The severe impacts of poor health in our state are simply not sustainable.

Our new health company shares a commitment to caring for all members of the community, regardless of their ability to pay. Nearly half of South Carolinians will be with 15 minutes of one of our physician practices or health facilities and, together, we will serve patients from every one of our state’s 46 counties.

The health company will be led by a board of directors committed to improving the health of our communities. These community leaders will be selected based upon expertise needed by the organization and will be initially appointed by the governing boards currently overseeing Greenville Health System and Palmetto Health.

We have the potential to invest an additional one billion dollars over the next five years in our Midlands and Upstate communities. To improve the health of our citizens, we will be able to multiply our current efforts to enhance programs, tap into the latest technology, improve facilities and develop our team members.

We will capitalize on the economic development successes in Greenville and Columbia to move South Carolina’s economic climate forward. The Midlands and Upstate will be more attractive to businesses because we have a healthy workforce and easy access to affordable, quality health care.  We will stimulate a life sciences sector that wants to partner with us to access our clinicians and our larger patient population to develop new medical devices and prescription medications. These companies will create good paying jobs to produce their products and research and development initiatives.
