Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. Submissions can be made online.
Tiger Lily florist raised more than $1,000 during its May Charity in Bloom program. Throughout the month, 15% of the proceeds from a designated arrangement were donated to Gina Applebee, a blind doctoral student raising money to build a tiny house so she can live independently for the first time.
Applebee partnered with I Got Legs, an organization that aims to improve the lives of people who have disabilities, to help her achieve her $30,000 fundraising goal. The Charity in Bloom program raised $1,485.60.
The Patriots Point education department has partnered with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources’ S.C. Oyster Restoration and Enhancement Program to host an oyster reef build from 7:30 to 10 a.m. June 21. Attendees will help restore the S.C. coastline.
Email Hannah Giddens, Patriots Point’s science program coordinator, to sign up. Participants will receive more information regarding logistics, appropriate attire and a confirmed scheduled once they are registered.
